Day 93

Another awesome sunny Canada Day! Here are some of the good pictures I've taken. There are about more 200 or so pictures of the day. A great National anthem was sang by my sister Hilda while the mayor put the flag up. The flag however wasn't changed to a new one this year which is pretty weird, but I guess that's okay. After the anthem, the rangers had their guns pointed to the mountain and fired them three times. This is pretty traditional now, it happens every Canada Day. After the gun firing, another traditional game was once again played. It's called "parlak" in Inuktitut. I think it's called "Candy drop" in English. It's not really candies that are thrown to the people. It's almost anything that is being caught. To name a few... Towels, frisbees, bras, under wears, furs, leathers and so on... After the events beside the municipal office, we were to go over to the "end of the road" which is past the airport to have the pic-nic and games again were held there. Our women elders along with their men once again had their favorite game which is baking bannock race. It's kind of fun watching them bake bannock. Especially when my grandmother is playing the game, too. After witnessing the game, we then started getting mattak. We had to get 1 square per person, but other greedy people took more than they were supposed to. It was awesome to have some country food outside in the sun. After we ate, I went up half way to the mountain to take pictures which I usually do in order to get a picture of the whole crowd that was there. Right after the games and food at one spot, everyone started going to the lake mainly called "Alain's lake," but older people call it "Eallasie's lake." The kayaking race which is also traditional was taken place there.
